Chairman’s Corner: June 2026: From Screens to Smart Infrastructure

GSA-Monthly-Overview

Dear Global Signage Alliance Members,

Over the past month, the international digital signage market has sent a clear message: our industry is moving beyond screens as isolated endpoints, towards intelligent, integrated communications infrastructure.

One of the strongest themes has been the accelerating role of AI in DOOH and signage operations. In May, OOH specialist Talon launched Atlas Planner, an AI-powered programmatic planning engine designed to improve audience targeting and campaign performance in digital out-of-home. This matters because AI is no longer confined to keynote discussions; it is being built directly into planning, buying and content optimisation workflows. More broadly, we are seeing wider adoption of AI-driven analytics, contextual content triggers and automated campaign orchestration across retail, transit and public-space networks.

A second notable development is the continued convergence of signage, media and passenger information networks. One example is ZetaDisplay’s new contract with Vy Group, Norway’s national rail operator, to build a combined passenger-experience and media platform. This reflects the direction many major networks are now taking, where screens are expected to inform, monetise and integrate with the wider customer journey, all at once.

On the hardware and sustainability front, June’s InfoComm momentum highlighted two parallel trends. First, display makers continue to push premium visual performance through fine-pitch LED, micro-LED and ultra-wide commercial displays, such as Planar’s new 21:9 5K range for signage and collaboration environments. Second, sustainability is becoming a genuine commercial differentiator. E Ink used InfoComm 2026 to showcase large-format colour ePaper platforms for DOOH, retail and public information, including outdoor-ready solutions and a 75-inch tiled display that only draws power when content changes.

Finally, the Digital Signage Summit Europe 2026 in Munich reinforced where our industry’s strategic agenda now stands: AI adoption, platform consolidation, cybersecurity and “NextGen Signage” are firmly boardroom topics, not niche technical discussions.

For GS Alliance members, the opportunity is clear. The winners in digital signage will be those who combine innovation with interoperability, sustainability and measurable business outcomes. Our role as an industry community is to keep sharing knowledge, building partnerships, and ensuring that this next phase of growth is shaped by collaboration as much as by technology.

Kind regards,
